St. Lucia: first night and Day #1

This is an avacado!!

These were picked from someone's yard!

Little boys love Legos in st. Lucia too!

The above pics were taken at the Landwehr home last night.  They have three boys, hence the Legos.  They have a beautiful yard with lots of fruit trees and flowering bushes. They served us a lovely dinner and then we sat and talked on their back porch about their ministry here.  Very nice to sit and talk with them.  Then Erik brought us over to the Spiegelberg's home where we chatted for a bit. When I brought out all the M & M's that we brought from the States, Jennifer couldn't believe it!  She was so excited!  After a long day of travelling, we got to bed and Mark actually slept in until 9 AM!

Tom took us to town. On the way, we stopped on the side of the road and bought a coconut.  The man selling them took his cutlass (like a machete) and cut off an opening in the top.  Then we drank the coconut water out with a straw. When that was done, he cut it in half and we enjoyed the coconut "jelly" on the inside. It was sorta like the consistency of snot at times, but was very good.  The coconut is such a versatile fruit...has many uses.
We then stopped by the church real quick and met Teacher Joy and saw the preschool. Nice facility they have there and a wonderful way for them to give back to the community.  Saw the plans for the next phase of building as well.  Everything is on a hill, so that always causes some interesting challenges with building.  But they have a system down.
From there, we headed into town (Castries) and we did a little shopping in the Market.  There was a Carnival cruise ship docked there, so there were some tourists milling about. Tom took us to see the town center which has a huge Catholic church in it, which we walked around in.
We bought a few items and then headed to meet up with Jennifer to have some lunch. She works at a local private school where their son, Ian goes, but she gets off at 1. We had a nice traditional St. Lucia lunch with plantains, green figs (which are basically unripened bananas), rice, etc.
Now, I think it's time for a little nap!
